Rehabilitation Reference Library for Exploration and Mining
The Rehabilitation Reference Library for Exploration and Mining is a toolkit of relevant guidelines and documents to assist practitioners in rehabilitation practices and planning across Australia. Sources include (in most cases) web-based documents published by various government departments, universities, international organisations, and industry associations. The reference library is intended to be a dynamic document that may be updated regularly. Should you have any updated or additional relevant resources, please send to cesoc@ausimm.com.au
The Social Aspects of Mine Closure
With many mining operations in the Australasian region approaching the end of their productive lives, good management of mine closure transition is becoming increasingly important. In the past, environmental rehabilitation has been the focal point of this work and some excellent results have been achieved; rehabilitation science is advanced and well documented. The same cannot be said for the social aspects of closure, although this is frequently the focal point in closure transition in other parts of the world and there are many lessons that can be transferred. This excellent compilation by the SMI Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining at the University of Queensland provides a greatly needed resource for Mine Closure teams to consider the social aspects of closure in a globally informed way.
